What it is
The first daily-operating monorail in the Western Hemisphere (1959) runs a 2.5-mile, 13-minute round trip between Tomorrowland and the Downtown Disney District station, gliding past the Matterhorn and over parts of Disney California Adventure and the Grand Californian. Park admission required to board.
How to do it right
- Valid park ticket required even boarding from Downtown Disney, it counts as a park entrance
- A smart lunch hack: monorail to Downtown Disney, eat cheaper, monorail back in
- Trains run roughly every 10 minutes, so a missed train is a short wait
- Walt opened this in 1959 with Vice President Nixon cutting the ribbon, another piece of living history
Best time to ride
- Use it as transport to Downtown Disney for lunch
- Anytime as a scenic round trip
Photo spots
- Mark VII monorail over the submarine lagoon
- Gliding past the Matterhorn
Accessibility
- You can stay in your wheelchair or ECV
