Worth it?
The math I run before I say yes.
Every family asks about the same add-ons. Plug in your numbers and you get my call, with the math shown, using 2026 prices.
Lightning Lane Multi Pass
Is Multi Pass worth it for this park day?
You book 3 rides ahead and grab more as you go. The question is simple: how much line time does it save, and what's that time worth to your family?
People buying it
Lightning Lane rides you'll use
3 is the floor. 5 to 7 is normal if you refill all day.
How busy is your day?
Saves about 35 minutes of standby per ride on a normal day.
Probably yes
You'd pay $136 to skip about 2.9 hours of lines.
| Cost for the day | $34 × 4 = $136 |
| Line time saved | 5 × 35 min = 175 min |
| Cost per hour saved | $46.58 |
| Your hour is worth | $75 |
This is why I recommend it to most first-timers: the hours go back to the pool, the parade, or a nap.
Park Hopper
Will you actually hop enough to pay for it?
The add-on is a flat price on the whole ticket, not per day. It pays off the days you use it: Hollywood Studios in the morning, EPCOT for dinner over the Skyliner, or rescuing a rainy day.
Tickets
Park days
Days you'd really hop
You can hop any time of day.
Probably yes
$340 total, or $42.50 per person each day you hop.
| Add-on for everyone | $85 × 4 = $340 |
| Days you hop | 2 of 5 |
| Per hop day, whole family | $170.00 |
| Per person, per hop day | $42.50 |
I call it worth it for most families: it's insurance. When a ride breaks down or the kids fall apart at 3 PM, you can switch parks instead of losing the day.
Disney Dining Plan
Does the Dining Plan beat paying as you go?
The plan is prepaid credits with a Disney hotel package. It comes down to how your family eats, so I run this every time before I recommend it.
Per night: 2 quick-service meals and 1 snack each.
Adults (and kids 10+)
Kids 3 to 9
Nights
Toss-up
The plan saves about $5 on this trip.
| Plan, adults | $62.78 × 2 × 6 |
| Plan, kids | $25.82 × 2 × 6 |
| Plan total | $1,063.20 |
| Same food, paying as you go | $1,068.00 |
Paying as you go assumes $56 a day per adult and $33 per kid for the same meals, tax in, tips out. Tips on table service aren't covered either way.
Memory Maker
Will you keep enough photos?
Memory Maker is every PhotoPass and ride photo for the whole party, for one price. Without it, each photo is about $18.
Park days
Photos you'd keep per day
Ride photos, PhotoPass spots, character meets. 6 to 10 is typical.
Worth it
It pays for itself at 11 photos. You'd keep about 40.
| Memory Maker | $185 |
| Same photos one by one | 40 × $18 = $720 |
| Difference | $535 |
Worth it for most first-timers, and here's the real reason: a parent finally ends up in the family photos.
After-hours parties
Is the Halloween or Christmas party worth the ticket?
The parties are a separate ticket for a Magic Kingdom night with shorter lines, treats, and their own parade and fireworks. You can usually walk in at 4 PM, and the party runs until midnight.
People
Everyone 3 and up needs a ticket.
Hours you'll really stay
Little ones rarely make it to midnight.
Probably yes
Really costs $114 a person once you skip buying another park day.
| Party tickets | $209 × 4 = $836 |
| Park day you don't buy | -$95 × 4 |
| Real cost | $456 |
| Per person, per hour | $34.83 |
Fun, but it depends on your crew. If the kids are done by 9 PM, a regular evening with the fireworks gets you most of the magic.
Travel insurance
Is what you'd lose bigger than the premium?
A Disney package is refundable longer than most people think, so the real question is how much you couldn't get back: flights, prepaid tickets, a deposit past its deadline.
Probably yes
About $450 to protect $2,500, 5.6x the premium.
| Premium | 6% × $7,500 = $450 |
| At risk | $2,500 |
| At risk ÷ premium | 5.6x |
October is in hurricane season (June through November), so this deserves a real look. Buy it soon after booking: storms that are already named usually aren't covered.
Prices checked November 3, 2026. Lightning Lane ranges from Disney's 2025 to 2026 pricing; Park Hopper from 2026 ticket tables; Dining Plan prices include tax but not tips; Memory Maker is $185 bought 3+ days ahead; party prices are before tax.
