What it is
The world's first tubular steel coaster (opened June 14, 1959): six-person bobsleds climb into a 1/100-scale Matterhorn and race through ice caves past the Abominable Snowman before splashing into an alpine lake. Two separate tracks, one mountain, and no other Disney park has one.
How to do it right
- It's rough, a 1959 track with modern speed. Brace with your legs and don't expect Space Mountain smoothness
- Two different tracks (Fantasyland side and Tomorrowland side) that are similar but not identical; on slow days only one may run
- The Matterhorn has a single rider line, which can save a big chunk of the standby wait if your group is willing to split
- Watch for the Abominable Snowman, nicknamed Harold by fans, lurking in the ice caves
- If the climbers are out on the peak, that's a real mountaineering crew, a Disneyland tradition
Best time to ride
- Rope drop
- With Lightning Lane Multi Pass
- Single rider line
- Late night
Photo spots
- Full mountain from the hub or Alice in Wonderland side
- Bobsleds splashing down into the lake
Accessibility
- You need to transfer from a wheelchair or ECV to the ride vehicle
