Tiana's Bayou Adventure: Review, Tips, Best Times to Ride & Complete Guide 2026

Tiana's Bayou Adventure is Magic Kingdom's log flume ride, based on Disney's The Princess and the Frog. It opened June 28, 2024 in Frontierland, in the building that used to be Splash Mountain. I've ridden it many times, and here's my honest review plus the tips I give clients.

Important: Fall 2026 Closure

Tiana's Bayou Adventure closes for refurbishment November 2, 2026, and is expected to stay closed through December 2026. If your trip falls in that window, you won't be able to ride it. If you're visiting before November 2, put it near the top of your Magic Kingdom list. Disney can change refurbishment dates, so I check the schedule for every client heading to Magic Kingdom this fall.

The Basics

• Location: Frontierland, Magic Kingdom

• Lightning Lane: included in Lightning Lane Multi Pass (not a Single Pass ride)
• Ride type: log flume with a big final drop
• You will get wet, sometimes very wet

The Story

The ride picks up after the film. Tiana now runs Tiana's Foods, a co-op in an old salt mine, and she's throwing a Mardi Gras party. Something is missing, so you head into the bayou to help her find it. Along the way you meet Louis the alligator, Mama Odie, and a lot of musical critters. The original song "Special Spice" plays throughout.

What It's Like

The ride is long by Magic Kingdom standards. Most of it is a gentle float past scenes with detailed animatronics. The Tiana figures are some of the best Disney has made. There are a couple of small drops, then the big one, which is the same tall drop the old Splash Mountain had, followed by a finale celebration.

The big drop is the only real "thrill." If your kids are 40 inches and can handle a short plunge, they'll love it. If anyone in your group is nervous, they can watch the drop from the walkway outside first.

How Wet Will You Get?

It depends on your seat. The front row usually gets the most water. On cool mornings or winter days, bring a poncho or a change of shirt.

Wait Times and Strategy

Tiana's is one of Magic Kingdom's most popular rides, and standby waits often run long by mid-morning. Here's how I plan it for clients:

1. Ride it early. Head to Frontierland right after you ride your first headliner at park opening.
2. Book it with Multi Pass. It's one of the best Multi Pass picks at Magic Kingdom.
3. Try the last hour. Waits often drop during fireworks, but you'll be wet on the way out.
4. Pair it with Big Thunder Mountain, which is right nearby. Big Thunder reopened May 3, 2026 with new track, new trains, and a new Rainbow Caverns scene, and its height requirement is now 38 inches.

A few things to know about the area right now: the Walt Disney World Railroad is closed until about November 2026, and the old Rivers of America (including Tom Sawyer Island and the riverboat) closed permanently in July 2025 for construction on a new Cars area.

Is It Worth the Wait?

Yes, especially for families. The animatronics, music, and finale are a big upgrade from what was there before, and it's a great way to cool off. If you ride it on a hot afternoon, nothing feels better.

Accessibility

Guests using wheelchairs or ECVs need to transfer into the log. Cast members can explain the transfer process at the entrance. Guests who need it can use Disability Access Service (DAS) to wait outside the line.

Slow Down in the Queue

The standby queue winds through Tiana's Foods, and it's packed with little story details: notes, photos, and props that set up the ride. If you're using Multi Pass you'll skip most of it, so if you ride twice, try standby once when the posted wait is short. It's worth seeing, and it makes the story on the ride make more sense to kids.

Who Should Skip It

Honestly, not many people. Skip it if you're dressed up for a dinner reservation or headed to a character meal right after, if you're riding on a chilly evening without a change of clothes, or if a back or neck condition makes a drop uncomfortable (read the posted warnings at the entrance). Everyone else, ride it.

On-ride Photo

There's a ride photo snapped on the big drop. You can view and buy it after the ride, and if you have Memory Maker it downloads to your PhotoPass account in the My Disney Experience app. Plan your pose before you hit the top, because you won't have time to think about it on the way down.

Rider Switch at Tiana's

If you have a child under 40 inches, ask the cast member at the entrance for Rider Switch. One adult rides while the other waits with the child, then you swap without getting back in the full line. A shorter kid can ride Big Thunder Mountain at 38 inches nearby while you wait.

A Sample Frontierland Morning

This is how I'd tackle the area before the November closure:

Early Theme Park Entry: Head to Frontierland and ride Tiana's while the line is short.

Next: Walk over to Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, which is right nearby.

Then: Cross into Adventureland for Pirates of the Caribbean and the Jungle Cruise.

Snack break: Dole Whip at Aloha Isle or a Citrus Swirl at Sunshine Tree Terrace.

Lunch: Pecos Bill Tall Tale Inn and Cafe in Frontierland for Tex-Mex quick service, or the Golden Oak Outpost kiosk for something faster.

What to Wear

On a hot day, getting soaked feels great. On a cool winter morning, it doesn't. A cheap poncho keeps most of the water off, and a plastic bag keeps your phone dry. Lockers aren't usually needed for this ride, but zip everything up and keep bags at your feet.

How wet do you get on Tiana's Bayou Adventure? You'll get splashed throughout and wetter on the big drop. The front row usually gets the most water.

Is Tiana's too scary for little kids? Most of the ride is a gentle float through scenes with music. The big drop is the only real thrill. If your kid is 40 inches and handles a short plunge, they'll probably love it.

Is Tiana's a Single Pass ride? No. It's included in Lightning Lane Multi Pass.

Tiana's is a must-do for most families, and this fall it's on a clock. If your trip is before November 2, ride it early or book it with Multi Pass. If your trip is during the refurbishment, plan on Big Thunder Mountain and the other Frontierland and Adventureland rides instead.
