Disney World Thanksgiving Week 2026: The Day-by-Day Crowd Breakdown and When to Actually Book

Thanksgiving week splits into brutal days and surprisingly good ones, and Magic Kingdom closes early for the Christmas party on select nights. Here's the day-by-day plan and what to book now.

Thanksgiving week at Disney World has a split personality this year, and most people planning around it only see half of it. Yes, it is one of the most crowded stretches of the fall calendar. But buried inside that week is a run of genuinely good days, plus a scheduling quirk most planners miss entirely: Magic Kingdom shuts its doors early to regular ticket holders on Christmas party nights. Last updated October 2026.

The day-by-day breakdown

Thanksgiving 2026 falls on Thursday, November 26. Treat the week as running Monday the 23rd through Sunday the 29th, and the crowd pattern inside it is not flat.

Monday through Wednesday are the sleeper days. A lot of families are still traveling or haven't left work yet, so these three days run lighter than almost anything else you'll find in November. If your schedule has any flexibility at all, this is the block to protect.

Thursday itself, Thanksgiving Day, is heavier but softer than you'd expect in the mornings. A meaningful chunk of the crowd is off having dinner reservations or family meals rather than standing in line, which thins out rope drop and the first couple of park hours more than the raw attendance numbers suggest.

Friday and Saturday are the problem. These two days rank among the most crowded of the entire fall season, full stop. Everyone who wasn't already at Disney arrives for the long weekend, and it shows in every line in every park.

Sunday the 29th thins back out as people start heading home, though it's still busier than a normal early-winter Sunday.

The Christmas party is closing Magic Kingdom more than you think

Here's the part that catches people off guard. Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party runs 25 select nights from November 8 through December 22, 2026, and party nights land inside Thanksgiving week too. Check the party calendar on disneyworld.com for the exact nights.

On a party night, the party runs 7 PM to midnight, party guests can enter starting at 4 PM, and Magic Kingdom closes early for everyone without a party ticket. Happily Ever After and the Starlight parade don't run for day guests on party nights. If you didn't buy a party ticket and you show up expecting a normal evening at Magic Kingdom, you're going to be walking out the gate while everyone else walks in.

If Magic Kingdom is the priority for this trip, build your park plan around the non-party days that week and push EPCOT, Hollywood Studios, or Animal Kingdom into the party-night evenings instead, since none of those parks close early for the party. Party tickets run $189 to $229 for adults (kids 3 to 9 are $10 less), and several dates are already sold out.

The dining window is already open

Walt Disney World releases table-service dining reservations 60 days out from the date of the meal. For Thanksgiving Day itself, November 26, that window opened on September 27. If you want a table at a popular restaurant on Thanksgiving Day, book now and keep checking the app for cancellations.

Disney resort guests can book dining for their whole stay (up to 10 days) starting 60 days before check-in, all at once, which gives them an edge over someone booking meal by meal. Reservations release first thing in the morning Eastern time, so have your top picks ready.

If you miss the window, don't panic and don't give up on eating well. Resort restaurants tend to have more last-minute availability than the park locations everyone else is refreshing the app for, and the stroll-up counter-service holiday plates at most quick-service spots are a perfectly good fallback that requires zero advance planning.

What this actually costs

Thanksgiving week sits near the top of the pricing curve for both room rates and ticket pricing, close to the week between Christmas and New Year's. Disney raised ticket prices on October 6, 2026, with 1-day tickets now running from $119 and up to $229 on the busiest 2027 dates. If your travel dates have any give in them at all, the first two weeks of December carry the same full holiday decorations, the same wreaths and topiaries and Cinderella Castle lights, at noticeably lower prices and lighter crowds than Thanksgiving week delivers. You are not trading away any of the holiday atmosphere by shifting two or three weeks later. You're only trading away the crowds.

The actual plan

If you're locked into Thanksgiving week no matter what, front-load Magic Kingdom into Monday, Thanksgiving Day, or Saturday, and keep Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday for the other three parks. Book your Thanksgiving Day dining now if you haven't already, since that window is already open. Use Friday and Saturday mornings aggressively and expect them to be rough no matter what you do, since those two days are genuinely among the worst of the fall. And if your dates aren't locked yet, seriously consider sliding into the first half of December instead. Same decorations, same magic, a real difference in how much of your day gets eaten up standing in line.

Prices and schedules change often; confirm current details with your travel advisor before booking.
