Disney California Adventure Complete Guide 2026: Cars Land, Avengers Campus, and a Park in Mid-Transformation
DCA is the best second gate Disney operates, and 2026 catches it mid-transformation: the Avengers Campus expansion and a Coco boat ride are rising behind the walls while World of Color Happiness closes out the 70th. The complete guide.
Disney California Adventure opened in 2001 as the punchline of the Disney parks world and has spent two decades becoming the best second gate the company operates in the United States. Cars Land alone justifies the ticket. In 2026 the park is celebrating its own 25th anniversary inside the resort's 70th, and it is also a park in mid-transformation, with two Marvel rides and a Coco boat ride under construction and an Avatar land on the way. Here is how to do it right, right now.
The One Ride That Runs Your Morning
Radiator Springs Racers is the most popular attraction at the entire resort and it dictates your plan. Three ways in: rope drop it first thing, buy the Single Pass (around 23 dollars, the only Single Pass ride at DCA), or use the single rider line, which routinely cuts an 80 minute wait to 25 if your party will split up. The ride itself, a gentle dark ride tour of Radiator Springs that erupts into a side-by-side race through Ornament Valley, is the best thing Pixar has ever put on a track. Ride it twice if you can: once in daylight, once after dusk when the Cadillac Range glows.
Lightning Lane Multi Pass covers nine DCA attractions in June 2026: Mission: BREAKOUT!, WEB SLINGERS, Incredicoaster, Toy Story Midway Mania, Monsters Inc., Soarin', Grizzly River Run, Goofy's Sky School, and the Little Mermaid. It shares the same 32 to 34 dollar purchase with Disneyland Park, so on a hopper day one Multi Pass works both gates.
The Lands
Buena Vista Street is 1920s Los Angeles as young Walt found it, and it is mostly about Carthay Circle Restaurant, the best meal in either park. The Red Car Trolley is permanently parked (it closed in February 2025 for the Avengers expansion), but one car remains on the street as a photo op.
Cars Land is a full-scale Route 66 town and the single most transporting land Disney has built outside of Galaxy's Edge. Beyond Racers there are two well-themed spinners, Mater's Junkyard Jamboree and Luigi's Rollickin' Roadsters, plus Flo's V8 Cafe and the Cozy Cone Motel snack stands. Stay for the neon lighting moment at dusk. It is a small ceremony and one of my favorite things at any Disney park.
Avengers Campus holds Guardians of the Galaxy - Mission: BREAKOUT!, the best drop tower Disney runs (six soundtrack variations, so re-rides feel different), and WEB SLINGERS, where you sling webs with your bare hands. The Spider-Man stuntronic still flips 60 feet over the building several times a day. The big story is behind the walls: Avengers Infinity Defense and Stark Flight Lab are under visible construction, roughly doubling the land. Disney has not announced dates; realistic guesses say 2027 to 2028. Expect construction sightlines, not disruptions.
Pixar Pier wraps the bay with the Incredicoaster (the only inversion at the resort, 48 inch requirement), Toy Story Midway Mania, and the 150 foot Pixar Pal-A-Round wheel. The swinging gondolas earn their motion sickness warning; the non-swinging queue exists for a reason. Inside Out Emotional Whirlwind is closed for refurbishment as of June 2026.
Paradise Gardens Park is the classic seaside midway: Goofy's Sky School (a wild mouse coaster that is rougher than it looks), Jumpin' Jellyfish, Golden Zephyr, and the Little Mermaid dark ride, which is the park's best no-wait baby break. Silly Symphony Swings has been closed since late April 2026, sitting right next to the Coco construction zone. Speaking of which: the Coco boat ride announced at D23 2024 is rising between Pixar Pier and Paradise Gardens, with the show building nearly topped out. No date announced; do not plan a 2026 trip around it.
Grizzly Peak is the park's soul: a bear-shaped mountain, the Grizzly River Run rapids (you will be soaked, not splashed), and Soarin'. Important 2026 wrinkle: through July 1, 2026, the theater is showing the original Soarin' Over California for the 25th anniversary, the version fans have begged for since 2016. Soarin' Across America, the new film built for the country's 250th birthday, takes over July 2. Either way, ask for row B1.
Hollywood Land is the land to do in the afternoon heat: Monsters, Inc. Mike and Sulley to the Rescue (more on it in a second), Mickey's PhilharMagic, Turtle Talk with Crush, and the Animation Academy drawing classes, which run every 30 minutes and are the best free thing at the resort. The Hyperion Theater remains dark, waiting on a rumored new show.
San Fransokyo Square, the Big Hero 6 retheme of Pacific Wharf, is a dining district: Aunt Cass Cafe's sourdough bread bowls, Cocina Cucamonga's street tacos, Lucky Fortune Cookery's karaage, and the free Boudin Bakery Tour sample. Baymax meets at the Hamada Bot Shop.
Ride Monsters, Inc. While You Can
Disney confirmed Monsters, Inc. closes permanently in 2027, with its corner of Hollywood Land becoming part of a Pandora - The World of Avatar land expected around 2028 or 2029. Demolition permits are already filed. It is a charming, modest dark ride and it has about a year left. Get the Roz farewell in person.
World of Color Happiness! Ends August 9
The 70th anniversary version of World of Color, hosted by Joy from Inside Out, plays its final performance August 9, 2026, after which World of Color ONE returns. If your trip lands before then, this is the nighttime priority at DCA. The viewing areas in Paradise Gardens fill 45 minutes out; dining packages at Carthay Circle and Wine Country Trattoria, or the dessert party, buy you reserved sightlines. There is currently no parade at DCA; the Better Together parade ended in August 2025 and its parade route now sits under Coco construction.
Where to Eat
Lamplight Lounge is the toughest reservation at the resort: lobster nachos, a waterfront patio, and a 60 day booking window you need to hit at 6:00 AM Pacific. Carthay Circle is the special occasion room. For counter service, San Fransokyo Square is the strongest cluster of quick service at either park, and Pym Test Kitchen remains open and weird (the Not-So-Little Chicken Sandwich is two meals). Cozy Cone's Chili Cone Queso plus a Ramone's Pear of Dice slush is the correct Cars Land order. The Carthay Circle Lounge downstairs takes walk-ups and serves the famous fried biscuits without the dining room ceremony.
Seasonal Calendar Notes
The 2026 Food and Wine Festival already wrapped (March 6 to April 27). Oogie Boogie Bash, the resort's Halloween party, returns to DCA for 33 nights from August 18 through October 31, 2026, and it will sell out fast when general tickets drop June 18. If you are visiting in the fall, decide on Oogie Boogie before you book flights.
How Much Time Does Dca Need?
One full day covers the headliners with a Multi Pass. A day and a half lets you re-ride Racers at night, linger in the Animation building, and actually sit for a meal. Pair it with two days at Disneyland Park and you have the ideal first DLR trip: four days, no buses, one hotel, and the freedom to hop between gates in five minutes flat now that the hopping restriction is gone.
