Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge Complete Guide 2026: Rides, Lightsabers, and How to Actually Do Batuu Right

Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge is the most fully realized themed land Disney has ever built, and it is also the one that confuses people the most on a first visit. There is no character meet-and-greet, no parade, no nostalgia recreation of the cantina from A New Hope. What you get instead is a working Outer Rim outpost on the planet Batuu, two of the best rides Disney has put up in 30 years, a bar that requires reservations weeks in advance, and a lightsaber-building experience that costs more than a one-day park ticket. Done right, it is the best half-day at Hollywood Studios. Done wrong, it is a confusing walk past stuff you did not know you were supposed to book.

This is what to know before you go.

Where It Is and How to Get in

Galaxy's Edge sits at the back of Disney's Hollywood Studios. You can enter from Toy Story Land on one side or from Grand Avenue (past the Muppets theater) on the other. There is no separate land entry, no reservation required, and no queue to walk in. The land just opens up around you.

The Toy Story Land entrance drops you near the Resistance base and Rise of the Resistance. The Grand Avenue entrance drops you into Black Spire Outpost market, closer to Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run, Oga's Cantina, and Savi's Workshop. Most rope drop strategies have you enter from Toy Story Land if Rise is your priority.

The Two Rides, and Which One to Prioritize

Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance is the headliner. It is a 20-minute, four-part attraction with a pre-show, a launch ride to a Star Destroyer, an interrogation scene, and a trackless dark ride finale through a hangar bay full of stormtroopers. It is one of the best things Disney has ever built. Standby waits typically run 60 to 90 minutes by mid-morning and stay there until close. Lightning Lane Multi Pass does not include Rise. You either pay for Lightning Lane Single Pass (typically $20 to $25 per person, varies by date) or you rope drop it. (Verify current pricing.)

Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run is the other ride. You and five other guests pilot the Falcon as either pilots, gunners, or engineers, and the ride genuinely changes based on how well you fly. Pilots have the most fun. Gunners have the second most fun. Engineers press buttons when lights flash, which is fine but not the experience to fly across the country for. Standby waits are usually 30 to 50 minutes, and the ride is included in Lightning Lane Multi Pass. Tip: if you ask the cast member at boarding to put your group together as the two pilots plus four other roles, they almost always do it.

Priority order on a first visit: rope drop Rise of the Resistance, ride Smugglers Run with Lightning Lane Multi Pass mid-day, and ride Smugglers Run again in the last 30 minutes before park close (the line typically drops to a 15-minute wait then).

Savi's Workshop: Handbuilt Lightsabers

Savi's Workshop is a 20-minute experience where you build a lightsaber. You pick one of four themes (Peace and Justice, Power and Control, Elemental Nature, Protection and Defense), then assemble the hilt with parts brought to you by a Gatherer in character. At the end, you ignite your blade in front of a small group. It costs $269.99 plus tax as of 2026 (verify current pricing) and includes a carry case and your choice of kyber crystal color.

Reservations open 60 days out via My Disney Experience and the most popular times sell out within hours. If your kid is into Star Wars, this is the single most memorable thing they will do at Disney World. If they are not, skip it. A lightsaber from Dok-Ondar's Den of Antiquities down the path runs about $70 to $200 and looks identical to the Savi's hilts, just without the ceremony.

You can bring two guests into the workshop to watch you build. Anyone over the age of 4 can build. There is a cap on lightsabers per group, which has loosened over time but still applies on busy days.

Droid Depot: the Other Build Experience

Droid Depot is the lightsaber experience for kids who like Star Wars but cannot sit still through the ceremony at Savi's. You pick R-series (R2 style) or BB-series (BB-8 style), then assemble your droid from a moving conveyor belt of parts. It costs $129.99 plus tax (verify current pricing). The droids interact with hidden sensors throughout Galaxy's Edge, which is genuinely cool the first time you see your BB unit beep at a vending machine.

Reservations are recommended, but walk-up is sometimes available, especially in the afternoon. Allow 20 to 30 minutes for the build.

Oga's Cantina: the Bar

Oga's Cantina is a working bar themed to the smuggler hangout you would expect on Batuu. They serve cocktails, mocktails, and beer, plus a small snack menu. The drinks are real and they are strong. The Yub Nub (a rum-based tiki drink served in a souvenir mug) is the standard recommendation. DJ R-3X, the old Star Tours pilot droid repurposed as a DJ, plays remixed Star Wars music from a booth above the bar.

Reservations are required and they are the hardest dining slot to get at Disney World. They open 60 days out at 6 AM ET and disappear within 5 minutes. Slots are 45 minutes per group. Walk-up availability sometimes opens at park open and just before close, but do not count on it.

If you cannot get a reservation, you have not failed your trip. But if you can, go.

The Food: Docking Bay 7, Ronto Roasters, and the Milk Stand

Docking Bay 7 Food and Cargo is the main quick service restaurant in Galaxy's Edge. The Fried Endorian Tip-Yip (fried chicken) is the safe order. The Smoked Kaadu Pork Ribs, when on the menu, are the better order. Mobile order through My Disney Experience or the line gets long at lunch.

Ronto Roasters is the outdoor counter near the Falcon. The Ronto Wrap (sausage, roasted pork, peppercorn sauce, slaw, in a pita) is one of the best handheld foods at any Disney park. Get one. The Ronto Morning Wrap is the breakfast version and is also worth ordering.

The Milk Stand serves blue milk and green milk, which are non-dairy frozen drinks (rice and coconut milk base) that are interesting once. The blue is sweeter; the green is more tart. Order one, photograph it, then go get a Ronto Wrap.

The Play Disney Parks App and the Datapad

Download the Play Disney Parks app before you enter Galaxy's Edge. Once inside, the app becomes a Star Wars Datapad with four functions: translate Aurebesh signs into English, scan crates and panels for hidden audio, hack into ship systems for missions, and tune in to in-universe radio chatter. It is fun to use for 20 minutes. Most adults will use it once and forget. Kids ages 8 to 13 will use it for hours.

The Hidden Details Worth Looking for

Galaxy's Edge rewards looking up and looking sideways. The market stalls have working merchants who interact in character. The carbonite chamber from The Empire Strikes Back is tucked in a back corner of Dok-Ondar's. There is a Coca-Cola sold in a thermal-detonator-shaped bottle that the TSA confirmed in 2019 you cannot bring through airport security, and that is still the rule. Stormtrooper patrols pass through every 20 to 30 minutes, and they will absolutely interrogate you if you make eye contact.

The land also changes appearance with time of day. At dusk and after dark, the lighting flips it from "interesting set piece" to "you are actually inside the movie." Walk through Galaxy's Edge after sunset at least once.

A Reasonable Half-day Plan

Rope drop Rise of the Resistance from the Toy Story Land entrance. Tap in, ride it, then walk to Smugglers Run with Lightning Lane Multi Pass. Eat a Ronto Wrap. Hit your Oga's reservation if you have one. Build a lightsaber or a droid if that is on the list. Wander the market with the Play Disney app open. Come back at sunset for the lighting change and one more lap on Smugglers Run before close.

That is six hours and it is the right way to do Batuu.
