Toddlers are honestly a great Disney age. Kids under 3 get in free, they believe every character is real, and a slow ride through "it's a small world" can be the highlight of the day. The trick is planning around naps, heat, and height requirements. Here's what I tell families with little ones.

Magic Kingdom for Toddlers

Magic Kingdom is the best park for this age. Toddler-friendly picks:

• Dumbo the Flying Elephant
• The Barnstormer, a tiny coaster with a 35-inch height requirement
• The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh
• Under the Sea: Journey of The Little Mermaid
• "it's a small world"
• Mickey's PhilharMagic (3D, can be loud)
• Peter Pan's Flight
• Prince Charming Regal Carrousel
• The Magic Carpets of Aladdin
• Jungle Cruise
• Buzz Lightyear's Space Ranger Spin, which reopened April 8, 2026 with handheld blasters

A few things are closed right now: the Walt Disney World Railroad has been closed for refurbishment since September 28, 2026 (expected back around November), Carousel of Progress is closed until late spring 2027, and Tiana's Bayou Adventure closes November 2 through December 2026.

Rides to skip or use Rider Switch for: Space Mountain, TRON Lightcycle / Run, Seven Dwarfs Mine Train (38 inches), and Big Thunder Mountain Railroad (38 inches since it reopened May 3, 2026). Haunted Mansion and Pirates of the Caribbean have no height requirement but can be dark and spooky for some toddlers. You know your kid.

Epcot for Toddlers

Good bets: Frozen Ever After in Norway, The Seas with Nemo & Friends, Turtle Talk with Crush, Journey of Water Inspired by Moana (they will get splashed), Gran Fiesta Tour in Mexico, and Remy's Ratatouille Adventure. Soarin' Across America has a 40-inch height requirement, so most toddlers can't ride. Garden Grill (Chip 'n' Dale) and Akershus Royal Banquet Hall (Disney princesses) are toddler-friendly character meals.

Hollywood Studios for Toddlers

Hollywood Studios got a lot better for little kids in 2026. Disney Jr. Mickey Mouse Clubhouse Live! opened May 26, 2026 in The Walt Disney Studios area, and The Magic of Disney Animation opened September 14, 2026 next door, with character greetings and Drawn to Wonderland, an indoor play area. Also good: Toy Story Mania!, Alien Swirling Saucers, Mickey & Minnie's Runaway Railway, and Beauty and the Beast Live on Stage.

Skip with toddlers: Rock 'n' Roller Coaster Starring The Muppets (opened May 26, 2026, 48-inch height requirement), Tower of Terror, and Slinky Dog Dash (38 inches).

Animal Kingdom for Toddlers

Bluey's Wild World opened May 26, 2026 at Conservation Station (Rafiki's Planet Watch), and if your toddler watches Bluey, this is the stop. Ride the Wildlife Express Train to get there. Kilimanjaro Safaris, Na'vi River Journey, Festival of the Lion King, and the Affection Section petting area are all great at this age.

Strollers

You can rent single or double strollers at each park, or have a third-party company deliver one to your hotel (my usual recommendation for multi-day trips, since it works at the resort and on buses too). Disney's size limit is 31 inches wide by 52 inches long, and stroller wagons aren't allowed.

Park in the marked stroller areas outside rides. Cast members move strollers around, so tie something bright on yours and don't leave valuables in it.

Baby Care Centers

Every park has a Baby Care Center with changing tables, a quiet nursing room, a small kitchen area, and supplies for sale (diapers, formula, sunscreen). At Magic Kingdom it's at the end of Main Street, next to The Crystal Palace. EPCOT, Hollywood Studios, and Animal Kingdom each have one too; check the park map in the My Disney Experience app for the exact spot.

Naps and Pacing

Most toddler families do best with a split day: rope drop in the morning (Disney hotel guests get Early Theme Park Entry, 30 minutes early, every park, every day), back to the hotel for lunch and a nap, then back to the park for the evening. Park hopping has no time restriction anymore, so you can return to a different park after nap time if you have Park Hopper.

If your child naps well in a stroller, plan the nap around a show or a sit-down meal instead of pushing them around in the sun.

Character Meals and Meets

Toddler favorites: Chef Mickey's at the Contemporary, The Crystal Palace at Magic Kingdom (Pooh and friends), Tusker House at Animal Kingdom (Donald and friends), Hollywood & Vine at Hollywood Studios (Minnie's Seasonal Dine), Garden Grill at EPCOT, and Cinderella's Royal Table in the castle. Character meals are a great way to see characters without waiting in a long meet-and-greet line.

Lightning Lane with Toddlers

Lightning Lane Multi Pass (about $15 to $45 per person per day) is worth it for families with toddlers because it cuts down the time a small kid spends standing in line. Kids under 3 don't need a ticket or a pass. Disney hotel guests can book 7 days before check-in; everyone else books 3 days out, at 7 AM Eastern.

Height Cheat Sheet for Little Ones

Measure your toddler (with the shoes they'll wear) before the trip. These are the rides where a toddler is most likely to be right on the line:

• Tomorrowland Speedway: 32 inches to ride (a grown-up steers)
• The Barnstormer: 35 inches
• Seven Dwarfs Mine Train, Big Thunder Mountain, Slinky Dog Dash, Smugglers Run, and Kali River Rapids: 38 inches
• Tiana's Bayou Adventure, Soarin' Across America, Test Track, Tower of Terror, and Rise of the Resistance: 40 inches

Cast members measure at the entrance and they don't round up, so don't promise a ride you haven't measured for.

How Rider Switch Works

Rider Switch is free and it's the best tool parents of toddlers have. Your whole group goes to the ride entrance and tells a cast member you want Rider Switch. Group one rides while group two waits nearby with the little one. When group one comes back, group two rides without waiting in the full line again. It works with Lightning Lane too. Just tell the cast member at the entrance and they'll set it up for your group.

A Sample Split Day at Magic Kingdom

Here's the rhythm I build for families with a toddler and a Disney hotel:

8:00 AM: Early Theme Park Entry. Fantasyland first: Peter Pan's Flight, The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh, and Dumbo while lines are short.

9:30 AM: Your first Multi Pass return, then "it's a small world" and Under the Sea.

11:00 AM: Early lunch (mobile order at Pinocchio Village Haus or Columbia Harbour House), then head back to the hotel.

12:30 to 3:30 PM: Nap and pool time. This is the step parents skip and regret.

4:00 PM: Back to the park. Use your later Multi Pass returns, catch a character meet, and do Jungle Cruise or Buzz Lightyear.

Evening: If your toddler is a night owl, stay for fireworks. If not, call it after dinner. There's no prize for staying until close.

Best Resorts for Toddler Families

• Monorail resorts (Contemporary, Polynesian, Grand Floridian): the quickest midday trip back for naps from Magic Kingdom. The Grand Floridian is my DVC home, and the nap break is one of the reasons I love it with little kids.
• Art of Animation: Family Suites give you a separate bedroom area, so the toddler can nap while everyone else isn't stuck whispering in the dark. Plus the Skyliner and the Big Blue Pool.
• Any Skyliner resort: the Skyliner takes strollers and runs every few minutes, which beats waiting on a bus with a tired toddler.

What to Pack for a Toddler

• A stroller fan and a rain cover
• Swim diapers if you're doing pools or a water park
• Snacks and a sippy cup (outside food is allowed in the parks)
• A change of clothes in the stroller basket for splash pads and Kali River Rapids
• Ear protection for fireworks and loud shows

Toddler Faq

Do kids under 3 need a park ticket? No. Children under 3 get into the parks free and don't need a Lightning Lane pass.

Do I have to fold the stroller on the bus? Yes, strollers need to be folded to board Disney buses, so practice the fold at home. The monorail is easier, since you can roll right on.

What's the best age for a toddler's first trip? There isn't a perfect age. Around two and up, kids start to remember characters and handle a full morning. Under two is still great, and it's free for them.

Are character meals worth it with a toddler? Yes. You get a meal, air conditioning, and character time with no line, all at once. Breakfast is usually the best value.
