Disney Skyliner Complete Guide 2026: Routes, Hours, and Pro Tips

The Disney Skyliner is the best transportation Disney World has built since the monorail. It is fast, free, runs above the gridlock that strangles every internal Disney bus route, and connects five resorts directly to the entrances of EPCOT and Hollywood Studios with no driving, no parking, and no waiting in line for a coach with 50 strollers. If you are staying at a Skyliner resort, you will use it constantly. If you are not, it is still worth a planned trip just to ride.

This is the practical guide: which resorts it serves, how the routes work, when it runs, when it stops, and the small tricks that make it a much better experience than the bus.

What the Skyliner Actually Is

The Skyliner is a gondola system that opened September 29, 2019. It is built on the same hardware Doppelmayr installs at ski resorts, with continuously moving cables and small cabins that detach at each station so guests can board at walking speed. Each cabin holds up to 10 guests. There are no seatbelts and no operator inside the cabin. The gondolas have screened windows for ventilation but no air conditioning, which matters in July.

It is free. You do not need a park ticket to ride it, you do not need to book a time, and you do not need to be a Disney resort guest to board. Anyone can park at Disney's Hollywood Studios or at the International Gateway at EPCOT, walk to the Skyliner station, and ride.

The Five Resorts It Connects

Four Disney resorts plus the Caribbean Beach hub feed two parks.

Disney's Caribbean Beach Resort is the system hub. Every line either starts or transfers here. If you are connecting between parks via the Skyliner, you will pass through Caribbean Beach, get off your gondola, walk across the platform, and board the next one.

Disney's Riviera Resort is connected to the Caribbean Beach hub. Riviera guests get a direct line to EPCOT (about 5 minutes) and a one-stop transfer to Hollywood Studios via Caribbean Beach (about 12 to 15 minutes door to entrance).

Disney's Pop Century Resort and Disney's Art of Animation Resort share a single station between them. The line from Pop and Art of Animation runs to Caribbean Beach, then continues to Hollywood Studios. Total travel from Pop to Hollywood Studios is about 10 minutes. From Pop to EPCOT, you transfer at Caribbean Beach and add roughly 5 minutes for the second leg.

The Caribbean Beach hub itself has stations for guests staying there. Travel from Caribbean Beach to either park is about 5 to 8 minutes nonstop.

The Three Lines

The Skyliner runs as three connected lines, all anchored at Caribbean Beach.

Line 1 runs Caribbean Beach to International Gateway at EPCOT. This is a direct, nonstop line that drops you steps from the France pavilion entrance.

Line 2 runs Caribbean Beach to Disney's Hollywood Studios, with intermediate stops at the Pop Century and Art of Animation station. If you board at Pop or AoA, you ride directly to Hollywood Studios. If you board at Caribbean Beach heading to DHS, your gondola passes through the Pop station without stopping.

Line 3 runs Caribbean Beach to Disney's Riviera Resort. This is a short hop primarily used by Riviera guests connecting to the rest of the network.

To go from EPCOT to Hollywood Studios via Skyliner, you ride Line 1 to Caribbean Beach, walk across the platform, and board Line 2. Total time including the transfer is usually 12 to 15 minutes. For comparison, Disney's bus between those parks does not exist (you have to take a bus to a resort and transfer), and walking is not an option. The Skyliner is the only practical Disney-provided way to cross between EPCOT and DHS without a car or a rideshare.

Operating Hours

The Skyliner typically begins running 30 minutes before the earliest connected park opens and stops about an hour after the latest park closes. On a day with EPCOT opening at 9 AM, the Skyliner is generally running by 8:30 AM. (Verify same-day hours in My Disney Experience, since they shift seasonally.)

The system does not run 24 hours. If you have a late dinner at Disney Springs and miss the last gondola, you fall back on Disney bus service.

When It Stops

This is the one thing that shocks first-time Skyliner guests. The system shuts down for lightning within about 6 miles and for sustained winds of roughly 35 mph or more. Florida thunderstorms in summer can shut it down on short notice, and once it stops, it can take 30 to 60 minutes to restart after the weather clears, because cabins suspended on the line need to be cycled back to stations.

When the Skyliner is down, Disney runs replacement bus service from each Skyliner resort to the parks. The buses are fine but slow, and the lines are long because everyone who would have ridden the gondola is now in the bus queue. Build a 20-minute buffer into your morning if there is rain in the forecast.

The Skyliner also closes at random for maintenance windows. These are posted in advance on the Disney World website and in My Disney Experience.

Strollers, Ecvs, and Accessibility

Strollers ride with you in the cabin. They do not need to be collapsed for standard cabins, but oversized strollers (longer than 31 inches) and double strollers may require you to wait for a larger cabin. Cast members will direct you.

ECVs and wheelchairs board through a separate accessible loading area at every station. The cabin itself stops moving for accessible boarding (the rest of the line keeps running on the bypass), so loading takes a minute or two longer. Tell the cast member at the station entrance that you need accessible boarding.

Service animals ride in the cabin with you. Pets do not.

Practical Tips That Make a Real Difference

Ride the Skyliner in the morning at park open if you are staying at Pop, AoA, Caribbean Beach, or Riviera. The gondolas start moving 30 minutes before park open, which gets you to the tap stiles right at rope drop. The buses on those days are jammed.

Avoid the Skyliner the first 20 minutes after EPCOT and Hollywood Studios fireworks or shows end. The line back to Caribbean Beach turns into a 30 to 45 minute wait. Sit at a bar, get a snack, walk Disney Springs, and ride back at 10:30 PM when the surge clears.

The cabins are themed. Every gondola is wrapped with characters, scenes, or films, and the wraps are randomized. If your kids want a specific cabin (Toy Story, Frozen, Star Wars, Pixar, etc.), tell the cast member at the boarding gate and they can hold you for the next matching cabin. The wait is usually 1 to 2 minutes.

Bring a water bottle and a hand fan in summer. There is no air conditioning, and the cabins can hit 95 degrees inside on a humid Florida afternoon. The screened windows help once the cabin is moving.

You can ride the Skyliner just to ride it. A round trip from Caribbean Beach to EPCOT to DHS and back takes about 35 minutes and is one of the best free things to do at Disney World, especially at sunset when you get aerial views of the parks.

Does It Matter for Your Resort Choice?

Yes, more than people expect. A Skyliner resort effectively gives you walk-on access to EPCOT and Hollywood Studios, with no bus wait and no parking shuttle. For a value resort, that is the single biggest amenity Pop Century and Art of Animation have over the All-Stars. For a moderate, it makes Caribbean Beach measurably more convenient than Coronado Springs or Port Orleans.

If your trip is heavy on EPCOT and Hollywood Studios days, book a Skyliner resort. If your trip is heavy on Magic Kingdom and Animal Kingdom days (no Skyliner service to either), the gondola matters less and you can pick a resort closer to those parks instead.
